Statistical, Economic and Social Research and Training Centre for Islamic Countries (SESRIC) organised training on “Crop Cultivation: Cultivation of Arable Crops” at the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation of Republic of the Sudan, on 29-31 January 2013. The course was provided by Dr Abbas Ajeel Mohammed, an expert from Ministry of Agriculture of Iraq, and was attended by approximately 25 scientists, farmers, and officers.

The training course on “Crop Cultivation: Cultivation of Arable Crops” mainly covered the following subjects:

• Opening
• The aim of breeding programs
• Developing Inbred lines
• Developing new varieties with high yield and good quality
• Hybrids of Maize
• Single cross hybrid
• 3-way hybrid
• Double cross hybrid
• Practical of breeding methods
