Training Course on 'Agronomy: Fertilization' in Uganda
 
Date : 11-13 June 2012 Venue : Kampala Uganda

Statistical, Economic and Social Research and Training Centre for Islamic Countries (SESRIC) organised training on “Agronomy: Fertilization” at the Cotton Development Organisation of Uganda, on 11-13 June 2012. The Course was provided by Prof. Dr. N. C. Kuchinda, an expert from the Institute for Agricultural Research, Ahmadu Bello University in Nigeria, and was attended by 16 field extension workers and cotton researchers of the Cotton Development Organisation of Uganda who have expertise on cotton agronomy issues.

The training course on “Agronomy: Fertilization” mainly covered the following subjects:

  • Fertilizer Elements
    • Major nutrients
    • Trace nutrients
  • Role of Vital Fertilizer Nutrients in Cotton Growth and Development

  • Forms of Organic Fertilizers
  • Methods, Time and Rate of Application of Mineral and Organic Fertilizers in Cotton
  • Calculations to Determine the Rate of a Fertilizer Formulation
  • Other Cultural Practices in Soil Fertility Improvement / Maintenance
  • Mineral Fertilization and the Concept of Organic Cotton Production in Developing Economy
  • Practical Demonstration of Fertilizer Application in Crops
